BOY BOY
BOYBOY - Parvez Ahmed, of Bangladeshi heritage, was born and raised in the lower East side of NYC. A natural born public speaker, BOYBOY can easily sway a crowd, the larger the better. Studio JnS presents an exclusive with the talented MC/VJ - BoyBoy.
Studio JnS: When did you first know you wanted to become an MC/VJ?
Well this is a funny story. When I was in 6th grade I was bad in spelling, grammar, you name it. And one day when it was career day - "I dream. I plan. I can" - the only thing that came to me was a visual of an MC/VJ. I always liked to be on stage, in front of the camera, and my love for music. So that was the "Dream". The "Plan" part was reading scripts, learning lyrics of songs, forcing myself to continuously be on top of what is happening in the music industry and that is how it all fell into place. The "Can" part is my hard work in getting to understand the music industry and starting to hang out with my friends who were DJ's at smaller events, but then there is only so much I can do there. So we started doing house parties, which I will then host, and we would charge $5 dollars at the door. Then we started putting mixed tapes out to the local community and then it got pretty big and we started shipping out mixed tapes reaching as far as Australia. Long story short, that was the start of it all. I was more in the Latino scene of things and worked with DJ BeyondRest - we are still tight - but I branched off a few years back and D.A.Y.C was founded.
Studio JnS: What is the most memorable event/s that you have done in your career so far?
From everything I have done so far in my ten year career is the Puerto Rican day parade. I did that for almost 7 years and it was amazing, because its such a large event, and so much competition, yet me and my crew, our independent company, got to cruise up 5th ave doing our thing. We even did the pre-party and after party of the PR day parades as well. Our company had the first remix of lean back, DJ BeyondRest won several awards, including the 2008 urbin latinomix tape awards in Miami.
Studio JnS: What was the first desi show you ever did? Well in the midst of being in the Latino scene I hosted a desi event in 1997 at club Amazura. It was a really great change from the Latin scene. The fire for my own culture came back when in one year at the PR parade, where I would be rocking the PR flag usually, then for some reason I got hold of a Bangladesh flag and no one really knew what the hell that was, which country it represented. Then along 5th ave, a desi crew was hanging out, they seemed a bit bored, and it was such an awesome moment, there I was waving the Bangladesh flag in a PR Day Parade - and the desi crew saw it, they got wild and it felt so good. They followed the float cheering the rest of the route.
Studio JnS: Is that when you decided to start D.A.Y.C (Desi American Youth Collaboration)
Yes, I somehow found myself more and more back in the scenes of my roots and D.A.Y.C was founded and BOYBOY was born.
Studio JnS: Does D.A.Y.C only put on South-Asian events?
No we dont. I love my heritage and I love every type of music there is out there.I dont care who you are and where you come from, but once you are in the presence of BOYBOY we make sure you have a great time with talented artists from the US and internationally. We've brought out artists like Jay Sean, Raghav, Nina Sky, Don Omar, Fabulous, Sean Paul...just to name a few. And there is many more such events to come baby.
Studio JnS: What else besides D.A.Y.C do you do?
I am a radio personality rocking the FM air waves and I operate our own business in the lower east side of NYC - Muchies - www.munchiesny.com. I was recently approached to model a new Urban style line coming out in the Summer of 2010.
Studio JnS: What is your professional philosophy?
Rome wasn't built in one day and where there is a will there is a way.
Studio JnS: Anything you want to say to the party goers out there, ready to be blown away by the super events D.A.Y.C put on?
Yes, Im BOYBOY with D.A.Y.C and I can give you 101 reasons to come out and party with us, but what you will get at our events is great entertainment, great venue, and myself...your host...to make sure you are happy and leave with a smile. All our events are memorable and upscale with a guarantee to give you what you want.
